Apple announced today a new series of hands-on technology workshops for teachers called the Apple Teacher Institutes. The summer workshops are aimed at helping K-12 educators across the United States and Canada utilize technology.
Apple VP of Education Marketing and Solutions Cheryl Vedoe said that the company understands the challenges that educators now face.
“We want to give teachers the chance to use technology in an environment where they can explore, question, learn and then return to their classrooms feeling empowered,” said Vedoe.
Apple indicates the workshops are aimed at helping teachers to maximize planning and instructional time, expand their areas of expertise, engage students, and discover new ways to individualize instruction, all using technology. Digital media, the Internet, and mobile and wireless computing will be highlighted. The workshops themselves will be lead by a team of educators who have already effectively integrated these technologies into their classrooms.
The workshops are planned in the following locations:
Best of all, the workshops are free. Apple says it’ll underwrite the cost of the seminar content and material for all attendees. All K-12 teachers, regardless of grade level or subject area, are invited to attend. Details and registration info is available at the Apple Teacher Institutes Web site.
