Yesterday we mentioned that the Chicago Cubs Web site could be more Mac friendly because its Gameday link favors the Wintel platform. However, it seems that the situation isn’t limited to the Cubs, as several MacCentral readers pointed out.
“Be fair to the Cubs; it’s not them,” said Blair Buscareno. “Rather, it’s Major League Baseball. The same thing happens when you go to the New York Mets site as you’ll notice if you go to the site. Look closely, and you’ll notice that both redirect you to the ‘New’ site for the club in question. I’m pretty sure this is true for all the clubs.”
Apparently it is.
“As a longtime Cleveland Indians fan, I was dismayed this year to find out that I can’t check out in progress of games either,” Jason Thomas Hawke told MacCentral. “It isn’t the teams, per se, but the fact that almost all the team Web sites and now under an umbrella site controlled by Major League Baseball.”
There does seem to be workarounds, however. The Gameday site said to use a browser than “Netscape 6.0, Internet Explorer for the Mac, or any browser below version 4.0.” See yesterday’s story and reader comments for details.
