Mac game publisher Aspyr Media’s plans to publish a Macintosh version of Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed was one of the highlights of Aspyr’s “Aspyrworld” media event last October in Austin, Texas. Now, unfortunately, it looks like it won’t be coming to the Mac after all.
“Electronic Arts, Aspyr Media and Westlake Interactive have been doing everything possible to bring Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed to the Mac,” said Aspyr in a press release first provided to MacCentral. “However, due to insurmountable circumstances the project has been postponed indefinitely.
“Currently, the time and resources needed to release a high quality game, within a timely manner, would place serious constraints on all parties. At this time, we have exhausted all options and feel that it is more important to move forward. Thanks for your understanding and continued support.”
Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed is a game that’s already been published for the PC. Of course, this shouldn’t put a damper on other high-profile Aspyr Media titles currently in development for the Macintosh. Aspyr and Westlake Interactive, the porting house with whom Aspyr does virtually all of its Macintosh game conversion, are working on several key A-list games right now, including:
And, we’re quite certain, other projects that folks outside of Aspyr and Westlake haven’t even caught wind of yet.
