Opera Software has released Opera for Mac Technical Preview 3. Opera is a small (2.2 MB footprint), fast, and customizable Web browser.
The new preview (the last one was released March 30) adds Java support and JavaScript error-dialog. The “confusing” Window home page is gone, according to Pal A. Hvistendahl, communications manager of Opera Software. The pop-up width problem has been fixed and the Links Visited feature now works. Support for external download managers such as Download Deputy is now on board. You can check out the entire list of changes online or download it (a 1.9 MB file) from the Opera Web site. However, the Technical Preview 3 still lacks AppleScript functionality.
This version is for Power PC-based Macs running System 7.5.3 through Mac OS 9.1, and should run okay in the Classic environment of Mac OS X. The company also plans to release a Carbonized version, and will make a 68K version for older Mac systems, as well.
