Western Digital Corp.
today announced the release of its new 60GB FireWire external hard drives. The drives are designed for plug-and-play compatibility with FireWire-equipped Macs and PCs, and includes software too.
Western Digital recognizes that digital photography and video editing is a popular use for FireWire, because the company includes Adobe Premier 5.1 LE for the Mac on its drives.
The company says the drives will work with any FireWire-equipped Mac, or Mac equipped with a PCI FireWire adapter card. The drive requires Mac OS 8.6 or later to work. Western Digital also makes a 30GB FireWire-based external HD.
Western Digital says to look for the new 60GB external hard drive in early May. The new drive will be available through Western Digital’s retail partners, Internet resellers, catalog resellers, and the company’s online store. Pricing is yet to be determined.
