Apple has released a new version of Apple DVD Player. The new version, 2.4, is ready for download from Apple’s Software Downloads Web site and may also be available for download using Mac OS 9’s Software Update control panel.
Apple DVD Player 2.4 is a software-only DVD player developed for use with newer DVD-equipped Macs, including iMac DVs, AGP-based Power Mac G4s, and FireWire-based PowerBooks. It is not for use with Power Mac G3s, PowerBook G3s, or PCI graphics-based Power Mac G4s.
Apple includes a great deal of information and compatibility data with the software and has posted that information to its Web site, but it does not appear to have provided a specific list of changes for this new version. More details are available at the link above.
Software system requirements call for North American Mac OS 9.1; QuickTime 4.1; and a previously installed version of Apple DVD Player 2.x.
