Mac ARA Modem Magic 5.0 — a set of 200-plus optimized V.90, V.92 and ISDN TA Mac modem drivers — connects most 56K modems reliably at speeds of 49333-53333bps, according to MacTech magazine.
“Most 56 K Modems do not come with highly optimized drivers,” Tracy Turner of macntosh.com, the folks behind the scripts and other modem products for the Mac, said. “Apple Computer has not added any new modem drivers since 1998, with the exception of a modification to the iMac driver in 1999. Modem Magic drivers have today’s current V.90 and V.92 parameters and optimization for quick logins, faster downloads and reliable stability.”
All of the modem scripts are purportedly compatible with System 7.5.3 through Mac OS X. The manufacturers suggested retail price is US$55, but there’s special pricing this week of $34.95.
