Baseview Products — which provides software tools for publishing, including editorial, advertising, circulation management, production and Internet solutions — will be debuting editorial system additions, as well as Web-publishing features and more at the NEXPO show in New Orleans, June 16-19.
NEXPO is the world’s largest annual technical exposition and conference for newspapers. Baseview is perhaps best known for ProductionManagerPro, a digital asset management and ad-tracking solution that’s designed to help publishers cut down on “make good” ads and increase productivity.
Baseview is introducing support for Quark’s CopyDesk Special Edition to the IQue editorial line. Using NewsEditPro IQue, CopyDesk and QuarkXPress, paginators and editors will be able to use perfect fit H&Js in their editing and pagination environments, according to Baseview spokesperson Jodee Taylor. CopyDesk’s notes feature, which allows editors and reporters to embed comments into stories, will also be accessible from within QuarkXPress.
PhotoBridge, Baseview’s Adobe Photoshop plug-in, is a new addition to the IQue editorial environment. You can open images directly from the IQue database in Photoshop application without exporting anything. This means you can edit, crop, adjust, tone, etc., any photo directly in the IQue database, Taylor said.
Baseview’s new InDesign Suite — which consists of CopyBridge plug-in, CopyTools and DragIn solutions — lets you harness the power of Baseview’s IQue editorial system for use with Adobe’s InDesign layout application.
ProductionManagerPro and the IQue Editorial System will “talk” to each other, allowing you to see all aspects of your pages come together. You’ll be able to see your ads and stories progress through from the beginning of the process to final publication, according to Taylor.
“Our InDesign suite offers you the flexibility of InDesign as a pagination application, as well as the use of InCopy from Adobe as an external editor for the IQue editorial system,” Taylor said. “You’ll get perfect fit H&Js when using InCopy and InDesign and still have to ability to let editors track, approve or reject changes to stories.”
The CopyBridge plug-in allows stories in the IQue database to be opened and edited in the InCopy text editor. CopyTools is a plug-in that gives extra editing functions to paginators using InDesign, including jumping stories, editing text that overflows from a box, warning you when there’s a text overflow before you print, and more. DragIn is a pagination plug-in for InDesign, easily allowing paginators to “drag and drop” stories from IQue directories onto InDesign pages, complete with formatting and headlines. Among the products you’ll see at NEXPO is Baseview’s Web-publishing solution, LiveIQue 2.1, which will be available this summer.
LiveIQue 2.1 will feature reports that detail what pages your subscribers looked at most, including the ability to cross-reference by demographic data. And an import/export function will let you track your online subscriptions with your print circulation system.”
Finally, the company will be touting CirculationPro and AdManager Pro. Circulation Pro 2.0, which now features Web Integration, allowing subscribers to take part in the managing of their own accounts via a publisher’s Web site.
With CirculationPro’s built-in Web Integration feature, subscribers can start a subscription, schedule vacation starts and stops, make address changes and even make payments via a Web page, Taylor said. They can also view recent account history online including changes, payments, as well as current expiration date, bill to or Gift Giver information. “The new CirculationPro 2.0 is a major upgrade with more than 50 new features, including improved Newspaper In Education (NIE) features,” Taylor said.
AdManagerPro has been beefed up for Web publishing, including a feature that simplifies the publishing of classified ads to the Web as easy as it is to publish them to paper. And a new product, Liners Online, lets customers schedule and enter classified ads via a publisher’s Web site.
