The Omni Group releases OmniWeb 4.0 for OS X

After an extensive public testing process, The Omni Group has released the “final” version of OmniWeb 4.0, its native Web browser for Mac OS X.

OmniWeb 4.0 sports a long list of features, including:

a fully “Aquafied” user interface;

support for color profiled images (using ColorSync);

multithreaded architecture for improved performance;

slide out bookmark and history drawers;

a bookmark feature that tells you when your favorite site has been updated;

text searchable history;

a configurable toolbar;

support for JavaScript, Flash 4, Layers, QuickTime, SSL, Cascading Style Sheets level 1, and in-progress support for Java applets.

The Omni Group makes OmniWeb 4.0 available for download from their Web site. Users who depend on OmniWeb are encouraged to purchase a license for US$29.95. Those who don’t will see the word “Unlicensed” appear across their browser window during idle times, and will see a dialog box appear when they first launch OmniWeb, but the software remains fully functional.

The Omni Group indicates that work has commenced on OmniWeb 4.1, which will be released this summer. “Great software evolves with time, experience, and lots of Mountain Dew,” said the company.
