A new version of CarbonLib is ready for download through the Software Update control panel. As MacCentral went to press with this article, Apple’s Software Updates Web site had not yet been updated with info on the new release.
CarbonLib is a system software library designed for various flavors of Mac OS 8 and 9. The library enables software based on Carbon — Apple’s system technology that bridges the gap between older versions of Mac OS and Mac OS X — to function on Macs running Mac OS versions prior to Mac OS X.
The Software Update control panel does not note what has changed specifically in the new version of CarbonLib, version 1.3.1. It’s a 1.8 MB download.
“CarbonLib 1.3.1 delivers new functionality and features for Carbon-based applications on Mac OS 8.6, all Mac OS 9 releases and Mac OS X,” says the information available in the Software Update control panel.
