Ecrix Corp. — which began shipping its first tape drive for the Mac in March — says the VXA-1 FireWire tape drive has garnered “significant” industry acceptance and is shipping in volume. What’s more, approximately 25 percent of Ecrix’s sales are sold into Mac environments and Ecrix expects these sales to rapidly increase with the drive’s new availability over the Apple Store, according to Kelly Beavers, president of Ecrix..
Ecrix’s external VXA-1 tape drive is available in a translucent housing that matches the design of the Power Mac G4 line and comes bundled with Dantz’s Retrospect Desktop backup software.
The VXA-1 tape drive offers Mac users three interface choices: a SCSI single-ended narrow and a low voltage differential (LVD), both available immediately, and a FireWire interface available in the second half of 2000. VXA-1 sports 66GB of capacity and 6MB/second transfer rate. The VXA-1 “out-of-the-box” Mac solution includes a cleaning tape, media and Retrospect.
The VXA-1 tape drive for Mac and the VXA-1 FireWire tape drive are available through worldwide resellers, distributors, e-tailers and directly from Ecrix. The VXA-1 FireWire bundle is available from the Apple Store.
