How many applications do you think there are for Palm OS devices? 3,000? 5,000? Try 10,000, according to the folks at Palm.
The company says that, as of today, the 10,000th third-party software application for Palm OS based handheld users shipped. Claiming the honor is the Novell GroupWise 6 Web clipping app, which is available from Palm’s new “Software Connection” Web site that organizes software into categories and offers them for download and sale.
The 10,000 applications don’t include the Palm Reader eBook titles currently available for the Palm OS, according to Michael Mace, Palm’s chief competitive officer. He said that developers are releasing an average of 500 new software products for the Palm OS platform every month.
“Our coterie of developers make more software available for Palm handhelds every few months than are available for other handheld platforms in total,” Mace said in a statement.
And what of the aforementioned GroupWise 6? The Web clipping application for Novell GroupWise 6 gives over 25 million GroupWise users the chance to access enterprise data wirelessly from a wirelessly enabled Palm handheld. GroupWise 6 provides an out-of-the-box collaboration environment that lets desktop and deskless workers to communicate from any location, through traditional, Web, and wireless devices.
