REAL Software has shipped REALbasic 3.2, its second free update for all REALbasic 3 owners. The tool for creating your own software for Mac, Mac OS X, and Windows utilizes Mac OS X’s Aqua interface, but also operates on pre-X versions of the Mac operating system.
Font Rendering is improved in the update. Text is now drawn smooth and anti-aliased on Mac OS X (via CoreGraphics font rendering) almost everywhere, Product Manager Lorin Rivers said. Remaining exceptions include single-line EditFields, and a few listboxes in the IDE. There have also been numerous bug fixes and IDE improvements. Plus, the Graphics.DrawPicture has been optimized. Speed and memory efficiency are improved and it avoids unnecessary caching in the case of drawing a picture created with the NewPicture method. Rivers said.
REALbasic is available for US$149.95 for the Standard Edition and $349.95 for the Professional Edition packages, direct from REAL Software. REAL Software offers academic and volume discounts, as well as license-only options. In addition to US English, REALbasic is available in Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Japanese. A special Swedish package is also available.
