When Apple first released Mac OS X, they said the new operating system would be pre-installed on all new machines beginning in July. Jobs announced during his keynote today at WWDC that OS X will be pre-installed on all machines starting today.
“We said we were going to be pre-installing in July. We are going to move that up two months and we are going to be pre-installing today,” said Jobs. “In addition to Mac OS 9 shipping on every system we’re going to ship OS X. We’re going to leave the default on OS 9, but it’s so easy to flip we think many will,” Jobs said.
“All Macs leaving the factory starting today will have OS X and 9. We can now check this one off.”
“This is a total commitment on Apple’s part and we ask the same from you,” Jobs said. “The train has left the station.”
