Cambridge Animation Systems has announced a Mac OS X version of Animo, its 2D/3D cartoon animation system. The software is used for development of feature films, animated TV series, commercials, games and multimedia projects.
Cambridge Animation Systems CTO Phil Barrett sees Animo’s release on Mac OS X as an opportunity to extend the company’s user base, not just with Animo, either.
“Mac OS X and the Power Mac G4 offer superior desktop performance. Our product strategy for the future now includes a commitment to releasing new products for the Mac,” said Barrett.
According to Cambridge Animation Systems, new versions of Animo will have the same functionality as the Windows and IRIX versions of the software, and will be able to seamlessly exchange files, as well.
The company also makes Inkworks, a cartoon renderer for Maya; and Swiffworks, a Shockwave export plug-in for Maya. Animo is used in more than 50 countries worldwide and has over 3,000 installed users. Clients include Warner Bros., Dreamworks SKG, Nelvana, and more.
