Hewlett-Packard has a set of Mac OS X-compatible inkjet printer drivers that replace the basic drivers included with Mac OS X. The new collection can be downloaded from HP’s Web site now.
The following printers are supported:
HP advises that after installing the software, users should open the PrintCenter Application, delete any HP printers that are visible, quit PrintCenter, open it again, and add the printer.
This driver release only supports direct printing via USB — AppleTalk communications are not supported. A number of other functions supported under Mac OS 8 and 9 are also unsupported in this release, including custom paper sizes, two-sided printing, back-to-front, ColorSync and more. HP indicates it’s working with Apple to support these missing features in a future release.
