dvGarage, a company dedicated to training the next generation of visual media artists, launched “The Morning Dailies,” a new forum designed to help upcoming computer artists develop their skills, on May 15. Participants are already getting feedback, according to Alex Lindsay, one of dvGarage’s founders and a former member of Industrial Light and Magic’s Rebel Unit.
The feedback takes the form of dvGarage’s existing “Attention to Detail” series. Each day, work submitted from around the world is closely examined for areas that could be improved, Lindsay said. In one-minute long animations, dvGarage uses the work to illustrate problems that many 3D artists struggle with when creating photo-real work. The new segment of the Web site adds to more than an hour of free streaming tutorials on the site that both observe the world from a computer artist’s point of view and try to recreate that world through easy to follow animated tutorials, he added.
