Opera Software today announced the release of the beta version of Opera 5 for Mac. Opera 5 is a Web browser known for its compact size and tremendous speed.
The software has already been available for the Mac for a while in a series of early preview versions. Opera Software said it has tweaked the browser and the user interface based on the feedback it has already received. Hakon Lie, Opera Software CTO, said that his company hopes to cast a wider net with the beta version.
“In return, we will make a faster, stronger and more visually appealing browser. With the help of the enthusiasts we can issue a final version of Opera that the Mac community truly can call their own,” said Lie.
According to Opera Software, Opera 5 beta for Mac support the following standards:
CSS1 & CSS2
Opera 5 for Mac runs on PowerPC-equipped Macs running Mac OS 7.5 or later (Mac OS versions prior to 8.0 need Apple’s Appearance Manager software installed, too). Opera Software reports that the new beta version supports Mac OS X in Classic mode, as well.
