Bare Bones Software today announced the release of BBEdit Lite 6.1, the latest freeware version of their enormously popular text editor. Like its full-blown commercial counterpart, BBEdit Lite works natively under Mac OS X.
BBEdit Lite is built around the same core text processing engine as its big brother, but utilizes a scaled-down feature set more appropriate to general use. It still contains a powerful mix of features suitable for reformatting text, searching, and other tasks.
BBEdit Lite 6.1 contains a number of improvements and new features over older versions, including support for Navigation Services and Appearance Manager, QuickTime image translation and movie playback, improved multi-file search, enhanced grep syntax, improved plug-in support, and other changes.
If you’re not running Mac OS X yet, don’t worry — the software is compatible with System 7.5.5 and up. And if you’re a registered user of BBEdit Lite 6.1, you can upgrade to the full version for a discount.
