Chris Neuman says that he didn’t realize how glossy the top and bottom of the new iBook was until he got his a couple of weeks ago.
“I didn’t like it. So I set out to paint it to match its big brother, the TiBook,” said Neuman, referring of course to the popular Titanium PowerBook G4.
And, with a fairly small amount of materials, some careful effort, and some creativity, Neuman has put a whole new spin on the diminutive consumer laptop’s personality. Neuman’s iBook has gone from being glossy and cute to making quite a strong statement, as seen in some photos he’s put online.
Neuman’s iBook strikes a variety of poses in a gallery of fashion photos now online. Although the work probably voids the warranty on the iBook, Neuman has also posted detailed instructions for how to make the conversion on
his Web site.
Basically, the effort requires a bit of disassembly, some careful masking, the application of primer and spray paint, clear coat, and reassembly.
