Trans Intl., a company that designs and manufactures computer memory and mass storage products, has announced the online availability of a new 2.5-inch, 48GB, 5400 rpm hard disk drive that can expand the internal storage of PowerBooks.
The 48GB drive has the lowest drive latency of 5.5 in 2.5 inch drives, making it the fastest drive currently available, according to the folks at Trans. It can deliver media transfer rates up to 241 Mbit/ per second, has a shock rating of 700 G/1 ms (non-operating shock with 150 G/2 ms, operating shock), 12 ms seek time, a 2MB cache buffer, and an Ultra DMA mode-5 maximum interface transfer rate ATA-5 (that’s 100 MB per second).
The drive replaces the traditional ball bearing design with a fluid dynamic bearing spindle motor technology to make it quiet during read/write operation than its predecessors, Trans officials said in a statement. It comes with a three-year warranty.
