Empower Pro Phone, an Internet phone application that lets you have real-time voice communication with any other Empower Pro Phone user, is coming to the Mac. In other words, it will let you call friends, family and co-workers over the Internet using your Macintosh.
In fact, a beta version of the product is available now and can be downloaded (it’s an 85k file) at the product Web site. The parent company — named appropriately enough Empower Pro — is taking now pre-orders for the product. You can order a copy for US $9.95 and save $20 off the regular price. All purchases include one year of free updates.
Empower Pro is a Mac only app. It runs under Mac OS X or Mac OS 9.x (with the CarbonLib 1.2 extension or newer installed). And, yes, it’s Carbonized.
“It’s our intention to support both OS 9 and OS X,” Susan Fougerousse of Empower Pro told MacCentral. “We are still resolving some user interface issues for Mac OS X. The current beta version runs well on Mac OS 9. Look for a Mac OS X version soon.”
