Apple has updated its Apple DVD Player software to version 2.7. The new version is ready for download from Apple’s Web site.
The Apple DVD Player is a software-only player intended for new computers. It doesn’t work with the DVD hardware present in Power Mac G3s, PowerBook G3s and Power Mac G4 systems equipped with PCI graphics.
Apple notes various limitations of the DVD Player software. For example, the software does not support DTS-encoded discs. Also, the software is not compatible with After Dark’s sleep function — users are advised not to use that function while a DVD movie is playing.
Apple DVD Player 2.7 requires the North American English version of Mac OS 9.1; QuickTime 4.1; and a previously installed version of Apple DVD Player 2.x in order to use the installer.
