Nerac, a company that provides customized information services for clients across all industrial sectors, has teamed up with ISI, which produces scholarly research information, to create compatibility between Nerac’s services and ISI ResearchSoft products. Customers will be able to use three software packages — EndNote (which has a Mac version), ProCite, and Reference Manager — to store and manage information retrieved through Nerac’s databases. Nerac will also offer the software for sale to its users.
“Harmonizing Nerac’s services with the three most commonly used software packages in the information and research business allows our clients to customize their experience more effectively,” said Kevin Bouley, Nerac President Kevin Bouley in a press announcement. “Now our users have the flexibility to better manage their valuable information.”
Users will be able to import the bibliographic data they receive from Nerac into any of the three software programs. The software will then allow users to store, organize and manipulate their search results. Programming of Nerac’s mainframe to deliver data compatible with the software is currently underway.
EndNote, the bibliographic software from ISI ResearchSoft, runs on a Power Mac with System 7.5.5 or later, a hard drive with at least 11 MB of free space, and a minimum of 5 MB of available RAM. It works with the following word processing formats: Microsoft Word 4-6.01, 98, and 2001; WordPerfect 1-3.5; AppleWorks (ClarisWorks) 4-5; Nisus 3-5; FrameMaker 3-5 (MIF format); Rich Text Format (RTF); HTML; and Plain Text.
With EndNote, users can personalize their reference databases by selecting which fields to display, by click sorting column headings, and by resizing the column widths. Now users can preview individual records in hundreds of different bibliographic styles from the database window.
EndNote 4.0 contains time saving features, such as the automatic addition of authors, keywords and journals to the Term Lists as they are entered, along with auto-completion to facilitate data entry. Now users can save Internet search strategies for re-use.
The list price of EndNote is US$299. Students can purchase EndNote for $99.95 with a valid student I.D. Special upgrade prices are available to owners of previous versions.
