The first beta of MandrakeLinux/PPC is now ready and available from MandrakeSoft. MandrakeLinux/PPC is a pre-configured graphical Linux operating system.
“This much waited version, particularly by users of computers equipped with a Power PC processor, is now available on our Web site,” Emmanuelle Casado of MandrakeSoft said.
The beta is G3 optimized, resulting in “significant performance gains,” Casado said. It also sports these configuration tools: Drakx, which provides graphical installation with built-in hardware detection and simplified disk partitioning; Mandrake Control Center, the place to completely set-up and configure your computer and peripherals; Software Manager and URPMI, with which you can install and update software; Supermount, which implements the mounting process for removable media such as CD-ROMs and floppy disks; Internet wizards that let you configure your Internet connection or cable and let other computers on your network access the Internet through our Internet Connection Sharing wizard
The beta of MandrakeLinux/PPC also has the latest versions of the KDE and GNOME user interfaces. You can find more info and download links at the
MandrakeSoft Web site.
