Once again there will be a strong user group presence at a Macworld Expo. At next month’s Macworld New York, eight Northeast Macintosh User Groups (MUGs) will have a large booth at the show.
MUGs are good places for making new friends, finding Mac-loving buddies, boning up your technical expertise, finding solutions to technical problems, and sometimes finding a good deal on used hardware. For more info on MUGs, and to find the location of the one nearest you, go to Apple’s User Group Web page.
Booth #1843, near the Internet Cafe, will be hosted by the Long Island Macintosh User Group, and will feature a rotating team who will be available to tell attendees about their groups, answer questions about membership in their organizations, and represent the world’s user group community.
The exhibiting groups range from New Jersey to Boston, from community groups to a special-interest group, from the large to the small, and include: 3DMacNY, Boston Macintosh Users Group, Bux-Mont Macintosh Users Group, Hastings On Hudson MUG, MACNJ, MUG ONE, and the Princeton Macintosh User Group. Plus, there’ll be a raffle conducted each day of the expo. Attendees may enter by visiting the North East Macintosh User Group Booth, and are eligible to win such prizes as Photoshop 6, a suite of Aladdin Systems products, and Final Cut Pro from Apple.
The North East Macintosh User Group Booth is part of the strong support IDG/Macworld Expo is providing to user groups, according to Chuck Joiner, editor-in-chief of The MUG Center, the resource site for MUGs. A variety of user group-focused resources and events are planned, he added.
Macintosh User Group Members are invited to attend the Expo for free or receive a 15 percent discount on conference packages by using the user group discount code that has been provided to registered user group leaders. However, the deadline for the registration is June 18 — and that’s just five days away. For details, go to The MUG Center.
Macworld New York 2001 will run July 17-20 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. For complete pricing and registration info, go to the show’s registration site.
