MacUser UK reports that Apple plans to unveil a promotional offer tomorrow to help spur sales of the PowerBook G4. Apple will offer a free external VST FireWire CD-RW drive to anyone who buys a Titanium-clad PowerBook, according to the report –the promotion is expected to last until September.
The MacUser UK report suggests that the bundle arrangement is an indication that Apple is looking to clear stock of existing PowerBook G4s in preparation of a new model that will sport CD-RW capabilities. The PowerBook G4, which was first introduced at January’s Macworld Expo in San Francisco, sports a DVD-ROM drive. Its consumer counterpart, the iBook, was remodeled in April and is available with both CD-RW and CD-RW/DVD-ROM drives as options.
The report indicates that the deal is only available to customers in North America, and will apply to both the 400MHz and 500Mhz models.
