B.I.G. Consultants International sponsors a “Future School for Detroit” project in Detroit, Michigan, with the goal of bringing computer skills to inner city youth.
B.I.G. is a company of Web site architects dedicated to helping people build or learn to build Web sites. They work with companies, schools, churches, or other organizations to train their members or employees.
“Apple Computer assisted us and we met with three of their executives,” Kawesa of B.I.G. told MacCentral. “This week we went to see the governor of Michigan and presented him with our program. He was very receptive and to my surprise, he asked if we were aware of the Apple iBook computer on wheels lab idea. He said it was a great idea for schools. Earlier this year in his he launched the Michigan technology Initiative. Every teacher in Michigan got a free laptop and many got the iBook.”
At a June 11 demonstration of “The Future School” initiative, B. I. G. and sister company, Douglas Myree Enterprises, demonstrated several Apple technologies depicting the Mac digital hub concept in the classroom, including iMovie, wireless networking etc. There was also a demonstration of computer use in home schooling.
“The Future School” program started earlier this year. Working with the Trumpeting High Praises ministry, a computer resource was started in the inner city.
“We plan to reach those people for whom computing is still a dream: the inner city kid and youth,” Kawesa said. Some of the goals are:
“We are currently looking for corporate sponsors to help pay for the young kids and youth programs,” Kawesa says.
