The Xinhua News Agency today reported that Apple has released the Chinese language version of Mac OS X to the Chinese market. The retail price of the localized operating system is 1,390 yuan, and as it is elsewhere, Apple is now including the new OS side-by-side with Mac OS 9.1 on new Macs shipping to the region.
Executives with Apple China including Vincent Tai reportedly showed off the new operating system in a presentation that emphasized some of Mac OS X’s new capabilities, such as its Aqua interface, pre-emptive multitasking and protected memory system which helps to keep the Mac from crashing if one application stops working.
The news agency also indicates that Apple has release the newly revised iBook and its 17-inch Apple Studio Display to Chinese customers. First revealed in May, the new iBook sports a smaller footprint, lighter weight, better feature set and radically different design than the original iBook. The recently released 17-inch Apple Studio Display is a digital flat-panel display featuring 1280×1024 resolution and horizontal and vertical viewing angles of up to 160 degrees.
