Apple’s Colleges of Education Institute has a full enrollment this year. However, you can sign up for the waiting list in case there are any cancellations.
The Colleges of Education are designed to help fill the need the US will face over the next 10 years. What need? Openings for 10 million new teachers. The Institutes are summer workshops designed to give teams of faculty and deans a hands-on experience “exploring the role technology can play in preparing tomorrow’s teachers,” as Apple puts it.
The Colleges of Education Institute is designed to help these faculty teams and deans:
Attendees will be equipped with an iBook with AirPort wireless connectivity and access to lots of software and digital media devices such as digital cameras, scanners, printers and science probes.
The Institute has space for just over 100 participants (Apple recommends at least three individuals per college or university participate in the Institute, “to maximize the benefit for each institution”). Participants should have basic computer skills (such as keyboarding, mouse, and familiarity with the Internet) and “be eager to take the next step and learn to use technology more successfully.” Attendees from both U.S. and international colleges are welcome, though instruction will be in English and English proficiency is required.
The Apple Colleges of Education Institute will be held July 21-25 at the University of California in Los Angeles. The daily schedule runs from 8 a.m. to 9:30 pm.
Apple is underwriting the cost of the Institute and is providing all content, materials, and use of technology for free. Apple has arranged for room and board on campus for US$500. All participants are required to participate in the residency program.
Alas, as we said, the Institute is currently booked. However, if you’d like to be placed on “standby” status, there’s an online registration form.
