Building on the work previously done by Kenji Gotoh, Jérôme Genest has produced a Carbon version of Movie2MPEG. The software enables Mac OS X users to convert QuickTime movie files to MPEG 1 format.
The software is a drag and drop application, but users can set the parameters they want for their QuickTime to MPEG conversion independently.
Genest notes that this version — the first Carbon port — can also open DV streams. He’s developed a separate version specifically for G4-equipped Power Macs to enable AltiVec (or Velocity Engine) acceleration, and he’s ported the software to CodeWarrior 6.
The software has a number of known bugs, but it’s being offered for free, and the source code to the application is available for download as well. Visit the link above for download links and more information.
