FirewireDirect has announced the release of its
FireWire DV WebCam. FirewireDirect said that the new camera records video at up to 30 frames per second at 640 x 480 pixels, with “image quality vastly superior to popular USB Internet cams.” The camera retails for under US$100.
The FireWire DV WebCam sports a swivel base that rotates 360 degrees and points up and down as well. It employs a standard FireWire cable connector — different from other FireWire WebCam offerings, according to FirewireDirect, which utilizes hardwired cables that lock users into a set length.
The camera measures less than three-inches wide and two-inches tall, and the base detaches, making it easily portable.
The FireWire DV WebCam ships with VideoLink for the Mac. It’s also compatible with Premiere and other digital video applications, according to FirewireDirect.
