Pretec Electronics Corp. has unveiled what it calls the largest capacity CompactFlash card in the world — a 640MB model. The new flash RAM card has been added to company’s existing model line, which ranges in size from 8MB to 320MB. Pricing was not available as MacCentral went to press with this article.
High-capacity flash RAM cards have become an increasingly important commodity, especially as new high-resolution digital cameras are beginning to make their way into the marketplace. This year several companies have introduced 4.1 megapixel cameras that can make use of the higher-capacity cards.
Pretec indicates that it has also developed an industrial and military-grade 640MB CompactFlash card that incorporates full metal protection, a wider range of working temperatures and new data protection and security features. Pretec claims the CF card is suitable for applications including military aviation, medical instrumentation, transport vehicles, and test and measurement equipment.
Pretec is showing off the new hardware at this week’s PC Expo at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City. They’re exhibiting at booth 4516.
