Apple has released new update for its Authoring Support extension for Mac OS 9. The update can be downloaded from Apple’s servers now.
The Authoring Support extension enables Mac OS 9 users to burn CD-Rs using Apple’s iTunes software. The extension is also used by Apple’s Disc Burner software, which replaces conventional third-party CD mastering software with an icon-on-desktop metaphor more familiar to Mac users.
The new update, version 1.1.2, adds support for QPS Inc.’s Que!Fire 16x10x40x CD-RW drive, which uses either the Teac or Plextor drive mechanism. Also supported are the VST 8x Bus Powered FireWire CD-RW drive, which also uses a Teac mechanism, and the Logitec 12x10x32 LCW-P1210BF model.
“CD-R drive manufacturers often use several different mechanisms in the same CD-R product. The above drive models and mechanisms are the only new combinations tested by Apple,” warns Apple.
The update itself requires that users have Authoring Support Update 1.1 successfully installed. More details about that update are available from Apple’s Web site.
