TEAC has announced the availability of a new portable, battery-operated CD-RW drive, available in both USB and PCMCIA interfaces (the PCMCIA version is for Windows only). The CD-W24PE drive weighs about a pound and measures in about the same size as a portable CD player. It features an integrated rechargeable battery pack.
The USB version of the CD-RW drive, which works on the Mac, features the ability to burn CDs at 4x, rewrite CDs at 4x, and read CDs at 6x. The drive features a 110ms average access time and incorporates a 2MB data buffer.
The portable CD-RW drive comes packaged with blank CD-RW and CD-R media, an AC adapter and a USB interface cable. TEAC also ships a copy of the OEM version of Roxio’s Toast CD mastering software with the drive.
The suggested retail price of the TEAC portable CD-RW is US$329.
