FireWire peripheral maker FirewireDirect has announced some expansions to its line of FireWire-based CD-RW drives. The company announced a new 20x CD-RW, as well as an 8x CD-RW.
The new PRO XL Series 20x10x40 utilizes a Yamaha drive mechanism equipped with an 8MB cache. As with all of FirewireDirect’s Pro series, the drive also incorporates Oxford Semiconductor’s 911 FireWire chipset, which FirewireDirect said is a high speed, ATA-100 compliant interface.
Available configurations include:
PRO XL Series (with 8MB Cache)
PRO Series
The package includes the FireWire CD-RW drive, power adapter, 6 pin to 6 pin FireWire cable, and user’s manual. FirewireDirect doesn’t bundle software with the drives, but it does offer Roxio’s Toast 4.1 software for only $1 more. If you’d like Toast 5 Lite instead, you can get that for $12.
