Another busy day of eating my way through Chicago … err, covering the NECC conference. And there’s further proof that MacCentral readers are the some of the greatest folks in the world.
Some have stopped me on the NECC floor just to say hi. And dozens of you have recommended Windy City eateries for me to check out. And while I probably won’t make it to ’em all, I’ll certainly do my best.
Tonight I had a Numero Uno pizza (extra cheese, sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions and green peppers) from Pizzeria Uno on East Ohio — it was really good. Still, I have to give the slight edge to Giordano’s. The latter’s stuffed pizza was just slightly more to my preference than the Pizzeria Uno pie. But we’re talking degrees of excellence here. And I know my friend, Bob “Dr. Mac” LeVitus, would disagree.
MacCentral reader Malcom Duncan perhaps explains it best: Uno’s is the best unstuffed, and Giordano’s is the best stuffed pizza. Sounds good to me.
Meanwhile, John Gettler said the best pizza in Chicago is Gino’s East. They have two types of sausage: sausage chunks and a sausage pizza that has a flat ring of sausage covering the entire pizza.
“In addition to having fantastic pizza, everything in the restaurant can be written on,” he said. “Yes, the walls, tables, outside of glasses, underside of plates had graffiti from past customers. You can spend all night just perusing the tabletop and walls around your table.”
Maybe I can check it out. And I appreciate the recommendation, John. And for those who gave me the lowdown on where to find ice cream (Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream on Chicago Avenue and Ghiradelli’s on Michigan), thanks for saving my life. I can only go so many days without ice cream.
Now that I’m stuffed, gotta get back to work as there are still lots of NECC stories to write. I’ll put “Mountain Soul” (the new album by Patty Loveless, the best female country vocalist around) into my PowerBook and listen to some bluegrass while I finish up a batch of articles.
Uno pizza; Ghiradelli’ ice cream; a Titanium PowerBook; and a bluegrass CD. What a multi-flavored world I’m lucky enough to be a part of.
