It will come as no surprise to most people that Apple has officially stopped production of the Power Mac G4 Cube. The company said in a statement that there is a small chance it will reintroduce an upgraded model in the future, but there are no plans to do so at this time.
“Cube owners love their Cubes, but most customers decided to buy our powerful Power Mac G4 minitowers instead,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
The Cube had its battles since it was first introduced. While the computer was praised for its innovative design, it was also criticized for its lack of expandability, cracks and price point, which led to poor sales. Efforts by Apple to upgrade the Cube with a CD-RW were not enough to keep it alive.
As a satisfied Cube owner, I’m sad to see the product go.
