At long last, the 1.07 patch for Rune is available for download. Human Head Studios reported Monday that Westlake Interactive has released the patch. The new version brings the Mac version of Rune in line with the Windows version, which was released this past May.
Rune was published for the Mac late last year by Gathering of Developers — in retrospect, one of their last Mac titles, since Gathering’s parent company, Take Two Interactive Software, recently cut a deal with MacSoft parent Infogrames to enable MacSoft to publish Mac titles. The game was developed by Human Head Studios and ported to the Mac by Westlake Interactive.
Based on Epic Games’ Unreal Tournament engine technology, Rune is a 3D, third person action game that puts you in control of Ragnar, a Viking warrior who must save his people from a vicious foe and legions of monsters and creatures straight from Viking folklore. It’s quite an epic romp and with innovations like two-handed fighting style and the ability to club your foes with their own detached limbs, it makes for an interesting adventure.
According to Human Head Studios, the new version of Rune for Mac fixes network compatibility. The new revision also sports EAX support, enabling users of Creative’s Sound Blaster Live! for Macintosh audio card to hear positional “surround” audio if they’re set up with a four-speaker system. Problems with graphics cards based on Nvidia’s GeForce chip have also been dealt with, and support has also been improved for the free online multiplayer gaming service GameRanger.
