There’s a new beta (version 4.5.237) of AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) available for Mac OS X.
The latest version of the chat client adds AIM Buddy icons and an account settings interface. Buddy Icons are graphics supplied by AIM or created by you that add personality and flavor to messages. You can assign a Buddy Icon to your messages or you can assign a Buddy Icon to a friend.
Your Sign-On Password, Screen Name format, E-mail Address, Buddy Icon, and Privacy settings can now be administered under one menu: the account settings interface. The new AIM beta has also been further optimized for Mac OS X.
Like its predecessor, it includes instant messaging, chat, news, stock tickers, Buddy alerts, idle messages and more. According to the folks at America Online, additional features, available on the previous AIM software, will soon be added to AIM for Mac OS X, including IM images, file transfer capabilities, and “smileys.”
You can download AIM 4.5.237 (a 2.7 MB file) at the product Web site.
