Canto has announced the Enterprise Edition of Cumulus 5 for Mac OS X. Previously available for Windows, Linux, Solaris and IRIX, the Mac OS X version has been optimized for the UNIX based Mac OS X and takes full advantage of all its BSD Kernel benefits, the company said.
“Canto has had a long and successful relationship with Apple and we are proud to continue supporting the Macintosh as it moves to Mac OS X. We are especially thrilled to be able to support the Macintosh at the enterprise level,” said Canto’s CEO Jennifer Neumann. “We believe that enterprises will be looking at Mac OS X as a server solution and at the same time, they will be looking for efficient, flexible, high-performance ways to manage their digital assets.”
The Cumulus Enterprise Edition offers the features of the Workgroup Edition as well as special features that large international corporations require. For example, the Cumulus Enterprise Edition offers AXR cross-referencing features and Oracle SQL connectivity.

For owners of Cumulus 5 Enterprise Edition running under Windows, an upgrade/sidegrade to the Mac OS X version of the Enterprise Edition is free of charge. The upgrade will be available as a download on Canto’s website under at the end of July. CD versions will be available in mid August.
