has announced the Enterprise Edition of Cumulus 5 for Mac OS X. Previously available for Windows, Linux, Solaris and IRIX, the Mac OS X version has been optimized for the UNIX based Mac OS X and takes full advantage of all its BSD Kernel benefits, the company said.
“Canto has had a long and successful relationship with Apple and we are proud to continue supporting the Macintosh as it moves to Mac OS X. We are especially thrilled to be able to support the Macintosh at the enterprise level,” said Canto’s CEO Jennifer Neumann. “We believe that enterprises will be looking at Mac OS X as a server solution and at the same time, they will be looking for efficient, flexible, high-performance ways to manage their digital assets.”
The Cumulus Enterprise Edition offers the features of the Workgroup Edition as well as special features that large international corporations require. For example, the Cumulus Enterprise Edition offers AXR cross-referencing features and Oracle SQL connectivity.
Features of the Cumulus Enterprise Edition include:
Automatic detection of usage and cross-references of assets (TM AXR). For example, the Enterprise Edition will detect links and placed assets in compound documents. It offers functionality to easily maneuver between related assets, as well as the ability to easily update assets that include others which have been altered.
User and Group Privileges that allow specific user or group access to specific categories and records. For example, asset access and viewing for the sales staff can be limited to final, approved material while the marketing department also has access to all work in progress.
Cumulus Internet Client Option. Building on the success of the Web Publisher Option, the Enterprise Edition will allow changing of record and category fields, as well as Check-In and Check-Out functionality via the Internet. Extended transaction-based server-side automation. The Enterprise Edition offers an additional API, allowing a centrally customized solution to fit specific workflow needs.
Extended Database connectivity. The Enterprise Edition offers an API to access industrial strengths databases at optimal performance in order to store metadata and/or assets.
For owners of Cumulus 5 Enterprise Edition running under Windows, an upgrade/sidegrade to the Mac OS X version of the Enterprise Edition is free of charge. The upgrade
