If you’re a big fan of the simulated life game The Sims, you may be interested in some recent efforts made by Mac game publisher Aspyr Media to update the software. Aspyr has released new versions of The Sims both for Mac OS X and for “Classic” Mac OS, and the company has also released an update to Livin’ Large, the game’s first expansion pack.
A Carbon installer of The Sims is now available for download from Aspyr’s The Sims Downloads page. The Carbon installer (1.9MB) will let users play the game natively under Mac OS X. On that same page, you can download the 1.1.4 updater (1.2MB), which has been created for The Sims users running Mac OS 8.x and 9x. Aspyr recommends that users only apply the Carbon installer if they’re running on Mac OS X — users who haven’t upgraded to the new operating system are better off using the “Classic” version.
Livin’ Large is an expansion pack for The Sims that adds many new features to the game, such as new types of architecture and decoration, new careers, new skins, and other new functionality. Aspyr has also updated Livin’ Large, to version 1.2.1. The 9MB download is intended for Mac OS 8.x/9.x only.
Please note that all updaters are intended for the U.S. retail versions of Aspyr’s releases only.
In related news, Aspyr Media spokesperson Amy Torres indicates that this week will bring the release of a demo version of the company’s first LucasArts-licensed Mac game conversion, Escape from Monkey Island. Look for more info on that soon.
