Ambrosia Software has announced the release of a Mac OS X version of Snapz Pro, their popular screen capture utility. In addition to Mac OS X compatibility, the new version adds new features and capabilities.
While Mac OS X has limited built-in screen capture functionality, Snapz Pro X greatly enhances that ability. Users can select different formats for saving screen images, for example — .bmp, .pict, .gif, .jpg, .png, .tif, .pdf and Photoshop native files are all supported. The software also enables users to add borders, generate thumbnails, overlay watermarks and copyright notices, and more.
The new version incorporates an Objects tool, which enables you to specify the windows or menus you’d like to capture. Snapz Pro X also features a “Fatbits” tool that lets you zoom in on on-screen imagery to help you create precision image thumbnails.
Snapz Pro X has been rewritten to support Mac OS X, according to Ambrosia. The software has support for long file names, auto preview icons on image files, Unicode/international support, and other features.
Snapz Pro X can be downloaded now, and registered for US$29. An optional upgrade is also available that provides you with movie capture capabilities — that version costs $49 instead. (You can upgrade later if you decide you need it.) Upgrades from Snapz Pro 2 cost $19 for the basic version, $39 for the QuickTime movie-capable version.
