Seek Systems, a provider of data storage solutions, has announced two accelerated storage configurations to respond to the CPU (central processing unit) speeds of new Macintosh G4s.
The two accelerated storage systems — MacRAID-S and MacRAID-L — are pre-configured to meet the storage needs of data-intensive companies and are more flexible and less expensive than Solid State Disk for Mac users, according to Wayne Smith, president and CEO of Seek Systems. They’re available now.
“The blazing CPU speeds of new Mac G4 technologies make reading and writing to the hard drive even more paramount,” Smith said in a statement. “Our Adaptive Cache technology gives Mac users full utilization of the Mac G4’s processing power while protecting data in a Raid5 configuration.”
The FasFile MacRAID accelerated storage products are application independent and require no changes to the application code. The products support Mac OS 9.x, Mac OS X, Windows NT, Win2K, Unix and Linux. Up to six servers with different operating systems can be hosted on the same array. MacRAID is highly scaleable and can be expanded to over five terabytes, Smith said.
“Seek Systems has designed FasFile MacRAID to give Mac users the accelerated data access of our Adaptive Cache technology, the security of Raid5 and the flexibility of multihosting and easy expansion, such as enlarging the existing partition,” said Bruce Rodgers, Seek’s vice president of sales. “Best of all, these pre-configured systems are setup to install in an hour.”
The US$25,917 MacRAID-S System offers: 365GB of storage; 256MB of adaptive SSD controller cache; a FasFile controller; and 1-2 server ports and host cables. The $55,354 MacRAID-L System sports: 1.2TB of storage; 1024 MB of adaptive SSD controller cache; a FasFile controller; and 1-6 server ports and host cables.
