Maintenance releases (version 7.0.1) of Vicomsoft’s Internet Gateway and SurfDoubler are now available.
Internet Gateway, with pricing starting at US$149, and SurfDoubler, which costs $54.99, both provide Mac users with a way to share a single Internet connection with others, regardless of whether it’s a dial-up connection, cable modem, DSL line, or other form of hard connection. Internet Gateway is scaled to office, enterprise and school networks while SurfDoubler is scaled towards home users.
Version 7.0.1 improves the automatic setup of machines with Airport cards. Minor problems experienced by some users of Yahoo! have been fixed. And Internet Gateway and SurfDoubler now correctly handle FTP when using teamed Internet connections.
A trial copy of version 7.0.1 is online. Existing users of version 7 can upgrade free of charge at the update Web site.
Meanwhile, Vicomsoft is still looking for beta testers for the Mac OS X compatible Internet Gateway.
“Vicomsoft are porting the full range of Internet Gateway features to Mac OS X, to offer a comprehensive suite of Internet access, security, management and monitoring tools,” company representative Andrea Dewhurst said.
Along with shared Internet access and a robust Firewall, Internet Gateway incorporates a large range of connectivity and management features. These include: Timed Access Controls, Connection Teaming, Fallback Server, Remote Controls and Monitoring, DHCP/DNS Servers, Users & Groups, Caching and User Defined Filters.
The Mac OS X version of the software was previewed at the recent Macworld New York. The final version is due around the end of September. If you are interested in beta testing the Mac OS X Internet Gateway, go to the registration site.
