ViewSonic Corp. has introduced the VE170m, a new 17-inch LCD display equipped with a conventional VGA interface. The monitor carries an estimated street price of US$899, and works with Macs and PCs equipped with VGA connectors.
The VE170m sports a contrast ratio of 300:1 and 1280×1024 native resolution. The monitor also sports built-in stereo speakers, and what ViewSonic bills as “0-Touch,” an auto-tune feature that optimizes image quality regardless of resolution. The monitor also comes with ViewSonic Wizard software that’s both Mac and Windows-compatible, according to a ViewSonic spokesperson that spoke with MacCentral. The Wizard software assists users in setting up, installing the monitor and configuring it for optimized screen performance.
Measuring 16.9-inches wide, 8.1-inches deep and 17.5-inches high, the VE170m can also be wall mounted, with a two-inch profile. It features a new bezel design for ViewSonic LCD displays, as well. Sitting on a desk, the VE170m uses about half the energy and takes up about half the desk space of an equivalent CRT, accordingly to ViewSonic.
The VE170m is TCO 99 and Energy 2000 certified, and comes with a three-year warranty on parts, labor and backlight. It also comes with a year of ViewSonic’s Express Exchange Service, which guarantees a replacement display within 48 hours.
