Apple opened another retail store today, this one located in Plano, Texas. The crowd of at least 300 started lining up at 5:30 am to get a glimpse of the company’s latest retail effort.
Before the doors opened, staff from the Apple Store mingled with the crowd, showing off one of the new iBooks. One of the employees even had an order pad, in case anyone wanted to buy before they went in.
When the doors opened at 10:00 am Apple staff passed out t-shirts as they let in small groups at a time.
Today not only marked the opening of Apple’s store but the entire Shops at Willow Bend mall. The other retailers may have been impressed to see such a large crowd for the opening, until they all walked past their shops and stood in line to get into Apple.
“There was nobody waiting to get into any other store,” Les Tirmenstein told MacCentral. “In fact, employees from the other stores in the mall were standing at their doorways watching the huge crowd going to the Apple Store.”
Tirmenstein said the staff at the Apple Store were very helpful and knowledgeable, showing as much excitement for the opening as many of the customers.
Many people were walking around with iBooks and other products waiting to get in line to make their purchase. “One guy even used one of the display computers to transfer money to his account online, so he could make a purchase,” Tirmenstein said.
