This past July Canto announced that Cumulus 5 would be released for Mac OS X, and today the company confirmed that it’s happened. In fact, Canto said that it now offers solutions for media asset management, workflow and Internet publishing to Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server users alike.
Billed as “the ultimate metadata machine,” Cumulus 5 is a flexible database system developed to manage any kind of media asset — images, layouts, presentation, video, audio and text. Cumulus incorporates search functionality, extensive customization capabilities, and much more.
Canto said that Cumulus 5 Workgroup Server, Cumulus 5 Enterprise Server, Cumulus 5 Web Publisher, Cumulus 5 Vault, Cumulus 5 URL Asset Store and the Cumulus 5 Browser Option are all now built for Mac OS X. Client applications still require Classic to run in Mac OS X, however.
Canto noted that Cumulus 5 products are not compatible with the first version of Mac OS X Server — the company advises current Cumulus 4 users intending to upgrade to first update to the new Mac OS X Server and then to Cumulus 5.
