P & L Software Ltd today announced the release of FileMonitor, a freeware utility developed for Mac OS X and the latest major release of Mac OS X Server that enables you to monitor selected files for changes.
P & L Software explained that FileMonitor is of particular use to system administrators and software developers who are interested in process output or in debugging information.
Features include automatic display of monitored files, highlighted changes in monitored files, ability to remember monitored file attributes, customizable filters, and monitoring of both files and directories.
The software is based on a utility originally developed for OPENSTEP and the original release of Mac OS X Server. The software predates Apple’s own Console.app, and provides additional functionality, according to P & L sales director Lee Cox.
“We feel that this will be a real bonus to anyone who wants to be fully aware of what’s happening on their system. We’re pleased to be able to make FileMonitor available as freeware to the Mac community,” said Cox.
P & L Software Ltd also makes Mesa, a spreadsheet application for Mac OS X.
