There’s another beta of REALbasic, the development environment from REAL Software, available. Version 3.5b4 fixes issues with RbScript, Mac OS X (particularly with 10.1), in addition to numerous other enhancements and bug fixes. It also marks the appearance of Mac OS X support for office automation.
Why so many releases of REALbasic. REAL Software believes in “open” alphas and betas, according to Product Manager Lorin Rivers.
“We make each build (or interim step between releases) available to anyone who’s interested in participating in making REALbasic great,” he said. “We encourage people who do so to report issues they discover using our REALbugs tool. REALbasic prereleases tend to be high quality, especially when compared to other betas most people may have experience with. That said, they can have sharp edges, so it’s best to proceed with caution when using prerelease software.”
If you’re interested in test-driving REALbasic 3.5b4, you can find it at the Real Software beta site.
